How to design well for social media

Social graphics need to stand out. So how do you design well for social media? Here are some quick tips.

🥇 Consistency

Make sure your social media reflects your brand, this is very important for graphic creation. Keeping everything consistent aids recognition and trust.

📖 Readability

Keeping your fonts to a minimum and readable is key. 2 fonts max, I wrote a useful thing on font pairing, take a peek at it here.

🔡 Wording

As well as focusing on the typography make sure to keep the amount of words to a minimum. Long paragraphs aren’t effective, make it short and snappy.

🎨 Colours

There’s no need to introduce all the colours of your brand in your social graphics — to make it stand out use complimentary colours. 2–3 colours max, keep it minimal, include negative (white) space, let it breeeeeathe 😌

📱 Know your platform

Not all social platforms work the same, algorithms are different, audiences are different, so pay attention to what the people on your chosen platforms are looking for. A great article on Sendible about getting the best out of your social media channels is worth a read.

It’s very easy to get carried away with fonts and colours and doing all the things. Keep design minimal and accessible for all.
