What actually is a brand identity?
We hear the word ‘brand’ bandied around a lot, but it’s basically a set of tools and elements that are brought together to build a your company image – this is how a business distinguishes itself.
So we’re talking;
Typography (fonts and stuff)
Imagery (graphical and photography elements)
Building a brand identity can vary in process.
Some companies need to start from scratch, some from the middle, some a complete rebrand, and it can be as big or as small as you want.
I’ve created simple logos for people wanting to get their business off the ground, I’ve recreated existing logo designs, I’ve created entire brand identities.
How important is it to have a brand identity?
If you’re a company wanting to be taken seriously, it’s incredibly important. Think about the websites you’ve visited that haven’t been updated since 1995. Do you feel the urge to get in touch, or do you continue your search?
Consistency is key
When you take a look at all the top brands and their identities they all have two things in common; they’re minimal (no nonsense) and they’re consistent. Apple’s advertising; you know they’re Apple before they’ve even spoken (sorry Apple haters, it’s true).
Making sure you have a consistent look and feel will mean when you position yourself via social, ads, any form of marketing, you will be recognised. When we see a brand consistently we’re more likely for that to come front of mind when we’re thinking of hiring those services.
Whilst it may not be possible to hire a designer to create your brand when you’re a small company, it is definitely worth getting some advice from one.
